welcome(1)

Welcome to Oakwood Avenue Community School,  part of the One Community Trust.

Having started at Oakwood Avenue 17 years ago as deputy head, I am excited to start this September as fulltime headteacher. When Mr Cunningham became headteacher in September 2009, he joined it as an already good school (Ofsted, May 2009) with many of the same staff who are still here. Staff who remain as passionate, dedicated and committed as they were then. It is not in doubt that our school went from strength to strength under his leadership, as it will continue to do so under mine. We have an extremely strong team of people from our teachers and TAs to those who work in the offices, those who work during our lunch times and after school hours, who all work so well to provide the best for all children, both academically and socially.

We are so proud of our school and its community and we hope that your child (or children) will be very happy here. Our school is driven by its Oaky Family values and while we are a larger than average primary school, it always feels like a close and nurturing place to be. It’s one of the reasons I love working here! We want our children to embrace our Oaky Family values to be the best they can be. Our family values ensure that every child has the chance to learn in a safe and happy environment.

We know that school works best when we have good, strong relationships with our parents and carers. That’s why this year, we’ve reopened our Parents’ Cafe - The Oaky Dokey Cafe, run by Allison Platt who will always greet you with a smile. Here parents, grandparents and carers can meet and socialise. It is also a place where school staff will visit and support in anything you may need in an informal and friendly setting. Throughout your time with us, there will be lots of opportunities to visit the school, get involved through our Parents’ Voice and express your views. We expect you to seek clarification on aspects of how school runs at times. But where children succeed the most with us is when we work together and with your support.  The closer we work together, the more we can achieve.

Our website will give you a first impression of Oakwood Avenue, as well as providing regular updates for parents and pupils.  We hope you find it useful, but please feel free to contact the school directly with any queries you may have.

I look forward to the next academic year with you all and am excited to take the school even further forward,

Joanne Reilly

Headteacher

Our Year 6 leavers wrote and produced this promotional video as their legacy to their time at Oakwood Avenue...enjoy.

reception 2024

Our video below gives a taste of what life is like at our school for new starters! We did this video back when school visits weren't allowed due to Covid. It gives a flavour of us but nothing compared to a face to face visit so we welcome those for children starting reception class in 2024. Please ring the school office to arrange a visit on the dates listed at the top of this page!

We al;so have a 2 year old nursery as well as a 3 year old nursery to get your child's learning journey off to a great start! Call our school office for enquiries of places on 01925 635565.
