Spelling Lists
Spelling the Oaky Way! In school, we use the sheet below as a prompt to support the children in learning their spellings. Take 2-3 spellings at a time to practise and let your child choose which
way they would prefer to learn them. Vary the ways! Learning these spelling lists would be a huge help and a great way of supporting your child.
Handwriting - using letter join
.Letter-join is a home-school online program that we have invested in to support and develop the handwriting of all of our pupils. The Early Years Foundation Stage and The National Curriculum specifies that we should teach handwriting throughout school and develop our pupils to have:
‘….fluent, legible and eventually, speedy handwriting.’
We have sent a ping to all of our families, letting you know the username and password for our school and how to access it on your device.

Oxford Owl reading scheme

Whilst is school is closed, one of the best ways you can support your child at home is by reading. We cannot stress enough the benefits of reading to and with your child. During this time, the focus of the reading you do at home should be reading for enjoyment and reading to practice the skills your child has already learned. We do not expect or want you to 'teach' your child anything new, just help to maintain the skills they already have.
Oxford Owls is an online reading resource where you can access online books suited to children's reading abilities. You will find a link to this on the learning apps page of our website. You will need to register and set a password, but all resources are free.
Please follow the link, then click on the level tab. Here you choose 'Book Band' and click on the colour of the books your child is currently bringing home. We recommend that children continue to read at this level, the level below (for fluency practise) and possibly the one above if they can access this. If your child finds this level difficult, please share the reading with them or abandon it for now as the last thing we want is to cause anxiety at home.
We always recommend reading little and often, 15-20 minutes everyday is ideal. Always encourage children to re-read 'reading' books they have already read for practise with fluency and expression, when they start to read real books in KS2, this doesn't apply.

How to make Play-dough
Our Nursery and Reception children love to use play-dough for their dough disco time! We are sure lots of our children, regardless of age, would still love to make their own play-dough to use!
Follow these simple intructions and have a go yourself:
You will need:
- 2 cups of plain flour
- 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil (baby oil and coconut oil works too)
- 1/2 cup of salt
- 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar
- 1 to 1. 1/2 cups of boiling water (adding it in until it feels just right)
- food colouring (optional)
There are many videos on the internet for you to watch to get an idea of how to make it with these ingredients.
